This tool needs to be connected to the suction system whenever in use.

The Hammer N4400 is a bandsaw, with up to 310mm cutting height, used to cut wood. Any type of wood can be cut with this saw, but the harder the wood, the slower you must cut.

This tool needs to be connected to the high volume suction system whenever in use, and the valve for it needs to be opened.

The bandsaw is at the same time the easiest and most complicated power tool you can use in the wood workshop. The complexity rises rapidly due to the amount of settings and screws needed to make it run correctly. Therefore an introduction is needed, as hands-on learning is better than only reading.

Before usage, the saw blade needs to be properly tensioned and made sure that it is running at the correct location on the wheels and between the ceramic guide blocks.

The wood bandsaw can be used to cut up to 310mm high pieces of wood. This tool is especially useful when cutting a “slice” of a long piece, or when cutting into a small, thick plate, where the cut needs to curve a bit instead of just being completely straight. The usage limits of the bandsaw are not so easy to find, and therefore this saw is the go-to machine for many people.

When using this saw, it is recommended to cut only in straight lines when possible. If a bend is needed, slight curves can be cut with the bandsaw. The minimum radius of the curve of the cutting depends on two factors: the depth of the blade and the teeth side-to-side offset. These two factors can be seen on the figures below. If a user tries to cut a sharper turn than the blade allows, the blade or the bandsaw can get damaged. The blade can become twisted which makes it difficult to cut straight lines and the blade needs to be repaired. For this same reason, the material to be cut needs to be sufficiently held down to stop it from rotating if there is a danger of that.

When cutting into wood using the bandsaw, it can become tempting to push the wood hard into the blade to save time and cut the piece quicker, as time is money. This is however not a good idea, as doing this can damage the blade and a new one needs to be bought, which costs more money than the time saved in the cutting. The blade should be allowed plenty of time to cut each millimeter of the material, and this can usually be heard in the cutting sound of the machine. If the cutting sound is a screech, you might be pressing too hard. It goes without saying that for thicker and/or harder materials, the cutting speed is lower.

Using the aluminium land (guide) can help when a set cut width is needed. Use the thicker side of the land side whenever possible, but if the cutting height is small and the width is small, it can be rotated to use the thin side as your material side. Just remember to flip it back again when you finish using the saw.

After each use, the machine needs to be vacuumed. The high volume suction system does not completely catch all dust and pieces which the saw produces. Vacuum around the saw and open the cover and vacuum the bottom of the machine as well. If any pieces of wood have lodged themselves somewhere internally, those need to be removed and thrown away. Do not vacuum those as they can clog the system or punch a hole in the dust collector bag.

Remember to release the tension of the saw blade after use!
